PROVIDENCE – CoreLogic released its fourth quarter Housing Credit Index report recently, showing that the average credit score of all borrowers that quarter was 737, and Rhode Island’s was slightly lower at 731.

Vermont was highest among the New England states at 741, while Maine was lowest at 729. Massachusetts’ average credit score was 739, while New Hampshire came in at 738 and Connecticut, 740.

The District of Columbia and California topped the list with average credit scores of 754 and 747, respectively, while Mississippi was last on the list with the lowest score of 720.

The report, which measures mortgage credit risk, looks at purchase-money and refinance mortgage loans dating back 15 years, data from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, as well as loan products in prime and subprime lending markets.

The report found the average loan-to-value ratio increased to 87.1 percent, from 86.7 percent during the same period last year.
