Hasbro partners with EA, others to license video games in 2009

PAWTUCKET – Hasbro Inc. announced last week that more than a dozen of its toy and game properties are slated to make the leap to various video game platforms in the second half of this year.

In a statement, Hasbro said it has entered into licensing agreements with video game creators Electronic Arts Inc., Activision and Glu Mobile. Financial details of the agreements were not immediately available.

Activision will release “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 2, PSP, Ninetendo Wii, Nintendo DS and Windows PC computers. The game is timed to coincide with the opening of the motion picture sequel to 2007’s “Transformers.”

Glu Mobile is releasing a version of the game for mobile phones, including Apple’s iPhone.

In August, Electronic Arts will release “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” a game based on the live-action film slated for release this summer. The game will be available for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 2, PSP, Ninetendo Wii, Nintendo DS and mobile devices.

Several Hasbro board games are slated for release on various video game platforms, including: Battleship, Yahtzee, Connect Four, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Cranium and Clue, among others. •
