Before opening franchise:
John spent 14 years active duty in the Navy. He was injured on the job and became stuck in a medical loophole while stationed in Guam, unable to leave the island to receive proper treatment. Losing hope, John was in the process of being discharged from the Navy when his wife reached out to the White House for help, leading to a congressional inquiry from former President Barack Obama's office to transfer John to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he was able to receive the treatment needed to make significant improvements.
Reason for opening:
While receiving treatment at Walter Reed, John and his wife earned entrepreneur certificates at Georgetown University. John entered the franchise business after being recruited by a group of franchise owners to restructure their business and bring them to profitability. John chose to open an Oxi Fresh in Rhode Island because he wanted to be able to comfortably support his growing family, pay people a living wage and have a responsible way to give back to the community. •
