Gas prices in R.I., Mass. tick down

PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island decreased 2 cents to $2.82 per gallon this week, 3 cents below the national average and 24 cents higher than this time last year, according to AAA Northeast Monday.

Prices ranged 33 cents, from a low of $2.66 per gallon to a high of $2.99 per gallon.

  • The average price of midgrade gas was $3.07 this week, ranging from $2.89 to $3.39 per gallon
  • Premium gas prices averaged $3.25 this week, ranging from $2.99 to $3.49 per gallon
  • The price of diesel fuel was $3.23 this week, ranging from $3.10 to $3.29 per gallon

“Gas prices in Rhode Island are at their lowest point since the end of April,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs, in a statement. “Stable gasoline inventories, amid lower demand, have contributed to driving prices down. This week, prices will be watched closely due to concerns about U.S.-Saudi Arabia relations and upcoming U.S.-imposed sanctions on Iran’s crude exports.”

The average price of regular gas in Massachusetts decreased 4 cents to $2.80 per gallon this week, 5 cents below the national average and 31 cents higher than this time last year.

Prices in the Bay State ranged 47 cents this week, from $2.62 per gallon to $3.09 per gallon.

  • Midgrade gas prices averaged $3 this week, ranging from $2.81 to $3.29 per gallon
  • Premium gas prices averaged $3.18 this week, ranging from $2.91 to $3.49 per gallon
  • The price of diesel fuel averaged $3.23 this week, ranging from $3.07 to $3.40 per gallon
