PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are holding steady, but rose 1 cent in Massachusetts, AAA Northeast said Monday.

“As spring arrives, it’s likely we will see pump prices start to tick up. People drive more in warmer weather, leading to greater demand for gasoline. And the annual seasonal switch from the winter fuel blend to the more expensive to produce summer gasoline blend also adds a few pennies to prices at the pump,” Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast, said in a statement.

Self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline continues to average $2.23 per gallon in the Ocean State, which is 7 cents below the national average of $2.30. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was $1.93.

Prices for unleaded regular in Rhode Island range from $2.09 to $2.35, with midgrade unleaded at $2.50; premium unleaded, $2.71; and diesel, $2.54.
