Online community resource debuts for south side of Providence: SouthPVD

PROVIDENCE – Those who live on the south side of the city have a new online community resource to find out what’s happening: SouthPVD, an initiative of the Providence Community Library.

The website provides information about community organizations and events in Elmwood, South Elmwood, Upper and Lower South Providence, the Reservoir Triangle, Washington Park and the West End. It was created to help provide a forum and voice for residents, according to a release from the library.
Moderated by library staff, users can submit content and upload events directly to the SouthPVD website.

“The site will change organically over time to serve the needs of the community,” PCL Regional Librarian Rod Burkett said in a statement. “We want South Side residents to drive the development of the site and make it robust, so we invite community contributors to send us news, local content, links to organizations and other useful information.”

Burkett developed the site with PCL colleagues Stephanie Shea, the site developer, and Donna Woodworth and Seth Bonenfant, the content developers. Spanish-language content, a teen blog and a local business feature also are planned for the site.

Information about PCL’s three South Side library locations, Knight Memorial, South Providence and Washington Park, also will be featured on the site.
