CRANSTON, Rhode Island – Tucked behind the recreation fields on Brayton Avenue in Cranston is a place once described as ‘an oasis in a desert, a beacon of light in what otherwise would be a time of darkness for so many people.’ That place, Hope Alzheimer’s Center, an adult day health facility for people with progressive memory disorders, has helped hundreds of families gain strength and knowledge to cope with these devastating illnesses, as well as peace of mind in knowing that their loved ones are safe, well cared for, and happy during the day while they are tending to work and other obligations.

On Thursday, September 20, Hope Alzheimer’s Center will hold its annual ‘Building Hope Soiree’ to support programs and services, as well as future growth. This year’s gala event will be held at 6 p.m. at the center, 25 Brayton Avenue in Cranston. Festivities include live and silent auctions, hors d’oeuvres and light fare, wine, music, and sale of participants’ artwork. The event is emceed by WPRI-12 and FOX Providence news anchor Mike Montecalvo. Ticket price is $35 per person, and sponsorship opportunities are now available for companies and individuals.

Opened in 1995, the non-profit Hope Alzheimer’s Center is one of only two dementia-specific day health programs in Rhode Island. Nearly all of the program participants would require institutionally based care were it not for the services at Hope. Postponing or even preventing nursing home placement preserves dignity for the individual and saves significant dollars for the healthcare system.

In terms of fundraising efforts, the center must find supplemental sources of funding to close the gap between the cost of care and state reimbursement. “The ‘Building Hope Soiree’ is our signature annual fund-raising event to bridge that gap,” said Cynthia Conant-Arp, MM, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Hope Alzheimer’s Center. “Business leaders and community members join together with caregiver families, past and present, for an elegant evening featuring art work that celebrates the lives of those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of memory loss.”

Raffle tickets are now on sale for the second-annual cash raffle to support the non-profit Hope Alzheimer’s Center. The top prize is $10,000, and a maximum of 350 tickets will be sold.

“We started the cash raffle last year to help boost fund-raising for the center, and it was so well-received that we made it an annual event,” said Conant-Arp. “The $10,000 top prize offers great chance for winning since we limit the number of tickets sold. All the proceeds go to a wonderful cause – the Hope Alzheimer’s Center.”

Raffle tickets are $100 each. In addition to the $10,000 prize, there are also second and third prizes of $1,000 and $500. The drawing will be held at the ‘Building Hope Soiree’ and ticket holders need not be present to win.
