(Middletown, R.I.) — Child & Family and the Rhode Island Department of Elderly Affairs (DEA) will host a Medicare Part D Workshop for Newport County residents receiving Medicare. This special workshop will be held between the hours of 10am and 3pm on Thursday December 10th at the new Child and Family Community Center located at 31 John Clarke Road in Middletown.

According to David Bell, Director of Senior Services for Child and Family, “The workshop will allow Medicare beneficiaries to review their Part D plan options for the coming year. We will have Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) volunteers and staff from community agencies available on site to help Medicare beneficiaries with their Part D plan choices in a one-on-one setting.” Open Annual Enrollment for Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (Medicare Part D) runs from November 15th through December 31.

During the Annual Enrollment Period, Medicare beneficiaries can join a Part D Medicare Prescription Drug insurance plan. They can also change to a different Part D plan. Persons entitled to Hospital Insurance and Medical Insurance through Medicare are eligible to participate in a Medicare Prescription drug insurance plan as well.

“We are pleased to offer Newport County Seniors this service,” stated Peter M. DiBari, President & CEO of Child and Family. “Our staff is prepared to provide answers to the many questions posed by the members of our senior community. It is so important to present a clear and easy to understand description of each plan offered.”

  1. If you are unable to make the workshop, I recommend doing a plan comparison at PlanPrescriber.com. You can do a zip code search or put in your current Medicare plan, Prescription Drug Plan, or Medicare Advantage plan and see how it compares to other plans available in your area. I have been using the search tool at http://www.PlanPrescriber.com for several years and find it very helpful in making my plan choice during the annual enrollment period.
