)   Rhode Island Red Food Tours has launched and is proud to offer guided walking food tours every Friday and Saturday (rain or shine) starting in late April through November from 12p.m. – 3:30p.m., in Newport’s historic district. Guests can taste their way through at least six participating eateries offering sweet and savory tastings in and around the Broadway and Washington Square neighborhood. The past meets the present as tour guides take you off the beaten path to share historical, architectural, and cultural points about the area while attendees experience tastings from newly opened eateries to well-established or iconic institutions.

Paula Silva, Founder and Owner of Rhode Island Red Food Tours, says she is excited to share and support these locally owned and operated restaurants she loves. Our “Food Tour Partners” are terrific, they are committed to using locally sourced seasonal ingredients and some organic when available, for a fresh “farm or sea to table” experience. “We think food tastes better when you get a sense of the inside space and vibe while you learn a little bit about the background stories of the food and eatery history, along with insider owner stories,” says Paula.

“We are offering a unique food experience to RI locals and travelers to Newport to have a variety of food experiences that can be creative and regionally inspired while learning something they didn’t know about the city along the way,” Paula says.  For visitors, she strongly suggests taking the tour at the beginning of their trip so they know where to return while in the city.  “Nine out of ten times they do go back to dine at one or more of the restaurants to try something we have tipped them off to.  Rhode Islander’s and bordering New Englanders looking to do day trips or weekend getaways in the off-season can return to enjoy the best places the locals enjoy.”

Private tours are also offered for corporate team building events, friend and family group outings, birthday celebrations, bachelorette and wedding parties and grade/high school or college field trips.

“Rhode Island is full of early American History and is continuously making the top 10 lists of food destinations in the U.S.,” Paula continues. “Newport is a big reason why, attracting talented chefs from major cities as well as our own Johnson & Wales University, College of Culinary Arts. We have created an authentic experience combining mouth-watering food tastings with fascinating tales about our colonial history for a fun and interesting food-filled afternoon!”
