RI Veterinary Medical Association Elects Officers

Providence, Rhode Island – The Rhode Island Veterinary Medical Association (RIVMA) has elected Dr. Jane Linden as President. She will preside over the RIVMA – a 200-plus member organization – during its 50th Anniversary year. RIVMA seeks to advance veterinary medicine and its relationship to public health and agriculture and to provide timely information and resources to the public. Dr. Linden is the owner of Providence River Animal Hospital www.providenceriveranimalhospital.com.

Dr. Linden has not only been a strong member of the Board since 2008, but has gone above and beyond her core governance responsibilities. With Reverend Mary Margaret Earl at McAuley House, Dr. Linden established a fund to provide veterinary care to the guests of McAuley who are often low-income, unemployed or without funds to afford care for their beloved pets. For two years Providence River has hosted open house at the hospital and raised nearly $5,000 for support of the guests of McAuley House and for the care of their pets. Additionally, RIVMA and Dr. Linden hosted a pet care clinic at McAuley House and gave physical exams, vaccinations and basic care to more than twenty pets in a single morning.

Dr. Linden frequently participates as a classroom speaker for the RIVMA Pets & Vets Program. Begun in 2007, the program provides an animal welfare curriculum to Providence and Newport middle school youth. With her dog Raisin, she visits classrooms to speak to students. She does a physical exam and reviews x-rays, showing broken bones, ingested items, body parts, and pregnancy. She is engaging, hands-on and a favorite.
