October 15, 2009 – Wakefield, RI – The Education Exchange, a non-profit provider of adult education and job skills training programs throughout southern Rhode Island, has announced that an on-site Learning Lab will be available to all Education Exchange students as of Tuesday, October 20, 2009. The Lab will be open throughout the Fall Semester, on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons from 1:30-4:30PM.

For students who did not register for the Fall Semester, the on-site Learning Lab offers an opportunity to enter the Education Exchange program prior to the start of a new semester in January. The Learning Lab will also supplement classroom training for current students by providing access to computers and software designed for the adult learner, workbooks for GED preparation, and hands-on learning tools. Because a substantial number of Education Exchange students do not have access to home computers and/or reliable Internet access, computer access is an important component of the Learning Lab, enhancing student outcomes in basic education skills and increasing students’ capability and comfort with computers.

In addition to the educational tools available in the Learning Lab, a professional teacher and trained tutors will facilitate learning through individual guidance and counseling. This individual attention, combined with increased time on task, will help improve students’ success rates on the GED tests, enhance performance on educational and workplace tasks beyond the classroom, and advance computer literacy for all students.

The core of the Education Exchange program is adult literacy, GED preparation and testing, and classes for English Language Learners. To meet the evolving needs of workers and businesses, the Education Exchange also offers computer classes, Microsoft Certification, and job skills training programs.
