Fundraiser at The Vets Supports Central Falls High School, the Segue Institute for Learning; Tickets Still Available

CENTRAL FALLS, Rhode Island – Rhode Island’s own Viola Davis is coming home to celebrate education. On October 7, Davis will make a special appearance at Veterans Memorial Auditorium for a red carpet fundraiser to support the Central Falls High School Drama Club and the Segue Institute for Learning.

The event will be held from 6pm to 11pm and will include a screening of Davis’ new film, Won’t Back Down, and a reception at which two of the actress’ awards dresses will be auctioned to support the schools.

Accepting her SAG Award for outstanding female actress in a leading role, The Help, Davis’ speech included a special note: “Dream big and dream fierce.” She directed it specifically to the students of Central Falls.

“Viola Davis has always been an avid proponent for education and her home state, further demonstrated by her gracious appearance at our upcoming fundraiser,” said Angelo Garcia, Founder/Head of School for the Segue Institute for Learning. “We’re beyond excited that she will join us to celebrate teachers and the on-going collaboration between our schools.”

The red carpet fundraiser stemmed from discussions between Segue and Central Falls High School in looking for new ways to partner on student and community support.

“The red carpet event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate arts and teaching,” said Deloris Grant, Central Falls High School ELA/Drama. “What is even more exciting is that my sister, Viola, is supporting Central Falls High School thespians and helping to raise money for our program.”

“Viola is a supportive alumna of the Central Falls High School theatre program and she is thrilled to be helping students at the high school,” Grant said.

The schools are working closely with The Rhode Island Film and Television Office, The Rhode Island International Film Festival and Veterans Memorial Auditorium in preparation for the event.

Tickets are $30 per person and can be purchased at http://cfwontbackdown.eventbrite.com. The post-screening reception will feature light hors d’oeuvres, desserts and a cash bar.
