PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island is the best state for nurses, followed by Massachusetts, according to a recent study by Zippia.
Zippia, a career and employment website, said the Ocean State topped the list due to the availability of jobs, average annual salary, average annual salary for entry-level work and average annual salary for experienced professionals.
The average annual salary for a nurse in Rhode Island is $76,410, and the entry-level salary of $55,420. The average experienced salary is $97,970.
Massachusetts, in comparison, has an average annual nursing salary of $88,650, and entry-level salary of $55,160. The average experienced salary is $134,950.
Rounding out the rest of the top 10 best states for nurses are Alaska, Oregon, California, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Washington.
The worst states to be a nurse? Virginia, Iowa and Kansas.
The website looked at data from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Employment Statistics for 2015, as well as cost of living and how common the jobs are in any given state to come up with its findings.
