2 honored at RIPEC’s 63rd annual meeting

The Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council’s 63rd annual meeting, held Thursday at the Providence Marriott, included the release of the nonprofit public policy group’s 2007 Operating Program, “Affordable and Sustainable Government: Public Service at a Price Private Citizens Can Afford.”

The 2007 program “is focused on continuing to make transformational changes in government by suggesting ways to limit spending growth, harness budget drivers and enhance tax competitiveness,” said Gary S. Sasse, RIPEC’s executive director, in a Thursday evening news release.

The event also included remarks by Gov. Donald L. Carcieri, a Republican, and a keynote address by U.S. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd, a Connecticut Democrat; the election of RIPEC officers; and the recognition of two individuals for their history of public service.

Receiving the the 2006 Robert M. Goodrich Distinguished Public Service Awards were Jerome F. Williams, executive director of the R.I. Department of Administration, and Richard J. Goldstein, senior government affairs officer for the City of Pawtucket. “Both of this year’s recipients represent the integrity, devotion and day-to-day commitment that too often goes unnoticed in the public sector,” said Paula Twidale, who chaired the Goodrich Award Selection Committee.
