SMITHFIELD – Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island has been named the top Medicaid plan in the country in the 2021 Consumer Assessment of Health Care Providers and Systems Medicaid adult member satisfaction survey.

The survey asks Medicaid members across the country about their experiences with health plans and health care providers covered by their insurance. It is also used by the National Committee for Quality Assurance to formulate quality measures in its health plan rating and accreditation.

“What began as a dream by Rhode Island’s community health centers and the state’s initiative to build RIte Care, Rhode Island’s Medicaid managed care program, has evolved into a health plan with a history of delivering high-quality health care to those who are most often at risk for poor health outcomes,” said Peter Marino, Neighborhood CEO and president. “To be consistently rated a top Medicaid plan in the country demonstrates the trust our employees and provider network have earned from our members, and in 2021 to be the No. 1 Medicaid health plan in the country makes me tremendously proud given the challenges we have faced together during the pandemic.”

As part of the CAHPS survey, Neighborhood Health’s Medicaid plan, with a 90.15%, was the first in the country to earn a score of 90% or higher in the health plan rating category. The plan also scored in the 90th percentile in the specialist rating category and earned an “Excellent” score in customer loyalty.

“These impressive results are a testament to the state’s foresight and collaboration to invest in a high-quality managed care program with rigorous, member-centric quality incentives at its core,” Marino said. “These incentives have become a cornerstone to all government-funded plans in Rhode Island.”

Neighborhood’s Medicaid plan earned accolades from the National Committee for Quality Assurance in 2021 as well.

NCQA rated the plan a 4.5, making it just one of 14 out of 185 plans nationwide to achieve such a rating. In addition, it was the only Medicaid plan in Rhode Island, and one of two in the country, to earn five out of five stars in the 2021 prevention rating category.
