PROVIDENCE – Three Rhode Island schools were designated as National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education, the R.I. Department of Education announced Monday.

Schools that receive the designation are public and private elementary, middle and high schools that either achieve higher learning standards or were selected for making improvements in closing the achievement gap.

This year’s Rhode Island Blue Ribbon Schools are:

  • Colt Andrews Elementary School in Bristol was recognized as an Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing School
  • East Greenwich High School was recognized as an Exemplary High Performing School
  • Jamestown School-Melrose in Jamestown was recognized as an Exemplary High Performing School

“The Blue Ribbon School Award is a tremendous honor, and earning this distinction requires hard work, talent and vision from school leaders, teachers and, of course, the students,” said Gov. Gina M. Raimondo in a statement. “Congratulations to Rhode Island’s newest Blue Ribbon Schools, joining the ranks of some of the most engaging, innovative, dynamic schools in our state and across the country.”
