3 R.I. researchers get $60,000 awards for mental health work

PROVIDENCE – Two researchers at Rhode Island Hospital and one at Butler Hospital have been awarded two-year grants for $60,000 each from NARSAD: The Mental Health Research Association to further their work.
Kristy L. Dalrymple and Camilo J. Ruggero, both based at Rhode Island Hospital and Brown University’s Warren G. Alpert School of Medicine, and Butler’s Brandon Gaudiano, who completed a clinical psychology internship and a fellowship in postdoctoral research at Brown, are among 222 early-career scientists in the United States and 10 other nations chosen to receive 2007 Young Investigator Award grants from NARSAD.
Dalrymple is conducting research focusing on the efficacy of integrated behavior therapy as an intervention for major depression and social phobia. Ruggero is researching a link between depression and the recall of information that matches a mood state. Gaudiano is researching treatments for bipolar substance abusers.
