Springfield, MA- The ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated held the 3rd Annual Educational Advancement Foundation Salute to Excellence in the Community Awards Luncheon on June 29, 2013. The jazz-themed event was held at the Springfield Marriott Hotel and honored six outstanding individuals from Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

 

The mission of the Educational Advancement Foundation (EAF) is to pursue lifelong learning. For more than 105 years Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated has exhibited a staunch commitment to educational endeavors through an unparalleled focus on philanthropy by its membership. We have awarded more than $1.7 million since 1980 through the Educational Advancement Foundation. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and EAF recognize that it takes a village to raise a child, and as such it takes more than just the schools and traditional education methods to create a love of lifetime learning. TheSalute to Excellence Community Education Awards Luncheon was designed to recognize and acknowledge those in the community that have made a difference in non-traditional educational ways to create an environment where our youth can grow. The awards have also served as an opportunity to allow the community to see the many scholarships, fellowships and assistance awards that are available through EAF. This year’s honorees were:
