40 R.I. career and technical education students finish top 10 at national SkillsUSA Conference

PROVIDENCE- Forty Rhode Island Career and Technical Education students placed top ten in the nation in events at the at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills conference, according to SkillsUSA Tuesday.

The SkillsUSA championships, which are centered around establishing standards for job skill training in the classroom, are modeled after the Olympics, where the top three finishers receive medals. This year, 87 Rhode Island CTE students participated in the championships, which took place from June 24th-29th.

This year, 17 Rhode Island students earned national gold, silver and bronze medals.

Johnston and Wales University totaled 11 top ten finishes this year, the most of any school in the state, followed by Cranston Area Career and Technical Center with 7 students earning top ten honors.
