Cheryl DiGennaro has the good fortune to be able to combine two loves in one line of work, yachting and interior design. She is owner of Newport Yacht and Home, a business that specializes in interior-design services and soft-goods fabrication for residences and yachts.
The Newport-based business, begun last June, was launched after DiGennaro worked in interior design for more than a decade, both in Rhode Island and California.

Interior design for yachts, in particular, is highly specialized. The fabrication work for curtains, bedding, cushions, pillows and other goods, as well as the design, needs to take into account the environmental conditions and the movement of the yacht, she said.
Her work includes retrofitting yachts for owners, as well as outfitting newly manufactured models, and preparing yachts for boat shows. DiGenarro also has experience with “super yachts,” which are more than 100 feet in length.
“It combines two of my very favorite passions, interior design and yachting. That combination makes what I do not feel like a job whatsoever,” she said. •
