Rhode Island Hospital recently celebrated the dedication of a completely renovated family room in its Comprehensive Cancer Center. The renovations were made possibly through a gift from the Michael H. Flanagan Foundation, a nonprofit that serves Bone Marrow Transplant and Leukemia induction patients and their families.
The room features new furniture, artwork and amenities that provide a calm, comfortable environment for patients and families, as well as space for families to meet with caregivers.
“Our goal with this family room was to create a space that felt like home for patients and their families to go when not in a hospital room dealing with the daily battles that leukemia or any cancer presents. We deeply understand the comfort that a peaceful room like this can provide,” said Christine Griffin, Michael Flanagan’s sister and the foundation’s director.
Along with financial grants, the foundation has also supported Rhode Island Hospital patients by providing “comfort bags” filled with games and personal items. •
