Yes on Question 3 for constitutional confab

Perhaps no ballot question is more important than determining if Rhode Island will hold a constitutional convention in 2016.
The issues at stake have created a highly energized atmosphere. The General Assembly has been unable – or unwilling – to take them on, but that is the strongest argument for this proposed exercise in direct democracy.
Among the likely issues to be considered are: a line-item veto for the governor; extending the power and reach of the ethics commission and the requirement that candidates for public office must receive a majority of votes cast to be elected. And there are many others.
These issues are not simple, and the discussions about them will not be easy. But they need to happen if the state is going to pull itself out if its current negative atmosphere. Question 3 needs to pass for the future health of Rhode Island. •
