What happens when two young optometrists go into business for themselves? They just might succeed.
Vincenzo Gianfrancesco, 28, and Kellie McMahon, 30, are doing exactly that. The two eye doctors had worked on the staff of an optometry firm in Bristol County, Mass., before going into business for themselves last summer in Rhode Island. They bought optometry practices at 145 Newport Ave. in Pawtucket, which they opened in August, and at 1970 Pawtucket Ave. in East Providence, which they recently opened.
Their company is named Modern Eyes LLC. They provide full eye exams, glasses and contact lenses for their customers – many of whom were patients of the previous practices at those locations.
“We had all of their patient records, so it made it easier to continue their care,” Gianfrancesco said.
Going from staff optometrists to business owners is more complicated and takes a greater time commitment, Gianfrancesco said.
“Your responsibilities go beyond what you do in the exam room,” he added. “We love it.”
