AAA: R.I. gas prices down 3 cents, Mass. gas ticks up 1 cent

PROVIDENCE – The price of self-serve, regular gasoline in Rhode Island dropped 3 cents this week to $2.56 per gallon, according to AAA Northeast Monday.

Rhode Island gas prices were 10 cents above the national average. One year ago, Rhode Island gas prices were 34 cents lower at $2.22 per gallon.

“Nationally, gas prices are 10 cents cheaper on the month and will continue to drop as we count down the days to the holidays,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs, in a statement. “AAA expects gasoline demand to weaken throughout the winter, which translates to better prices at the pump.”

Regular gas prices ranged 31 cents this week, from a low of $2.39 to a high of $2.70 per gallon.

Midgrade unleaded gasoline averaged $2.81 this week, ranging from $2.63 to $2.99 per gallon.

Premium gas averaged $3 this week, ranging from $2.68 to $3.20 per gallon.

Diesel fuel in the Ocean State averaged $2.82, ranging from $2.76 to $2.89 per gallon.

In Massachusetts, regular gas prices increased 1 cent this week to $2.49 per gallon, 3 cents above the national average. Prices in Massachusetts ranged 48 cents from $2.31 to $2.79 per gallon.

A year ago, regular gasoline in Massachusetts was 32 cents cheaper at $2.17 per gallon.

Midgrade unleaded in Massachusetts was $2.76, ranging from $2.55 to $2.99 per gallon.

Premium gas averaged $2.94, ranging from $2.71 to $3.25 per gallon.

Diesel fuel in the Bay State averaged $2.77 this week, ranging from $2.69 to $2.94 per gallon.
