
PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices in Rhode Island have fallen for the fifth straight week to 16 cents below this year’s mid-May peak, in what AAA Southern New England noted is “good news for motorists heading out for Fourth of July festivities.”
Self-serve regular gas fell 1 cent over the past week to an average of $2.929 per gallon, 3 cents less than the nationwide average of $2.959, the nonprofit auto club found in its July 2 price survey. A year ago, the average local price was $2.999.
The range in prices for self-serve unleaded regular in the latest survey was 29 cents, from a low of $2.819 to a high of $3.109. Similar price ranges were seen for self-serve diesel and midgrade gasoline, but the price range for premium unleaded was 44 cents.
Average self-serve prices this week were $3.079 for midgrade unleaded, $3.199 for premium unleaded and $2.949 for diesel.
