AAA: R.I. gas prices fall 8¢ to $2.689

PROVIDENCE – Retail gasoline prices in Rhode Island have declined for the sixth straight week, to their lowest level since April 2, according to AAA Southern New England.

In its Aug. 27 survey, AAA found an average local price of $2.689 per gallon for self-serve unleaded regular gas, 8 cents below last week’s average price of $2.769. A year ago, the local average was $2.969 per gallon.

The Rhode Island price in this week’s survey was 6 cents below the national average of $2.749, the nonprofit auto club found.

Local prices for unleaded regular ranged from a low of $2.599 to a high of $2.809 per gallon, a spread of 21 cents per gallon. AAA found even wider ranges for other grades of fuel.

Other average self-serve prices in Rhode Island this week were $3.289 per gallon for diesel, $2.999 for mid-grade unleaded and $3.199 for premium unleaded gasoline.
