Adult flu-shot campaign begins Oct. 17 in R.I.

PROVIDENCE – The state is launching an adult influenza immunization campaign this week, as required by legislation passed last year.

The “Immunize for Life” initiative, which begins Wednesday, includes outreach to doctors as well as 519 public flu clinics across the state. The R.I. Department of Health said it ordered a total of 258,000 doses of vaccine for the adult flu program, and the first round of deliveries to medical providers and facilities occurred earlier this month.

“We are pleased to be kicking off this new, more efficient approach to adult influenza immunization,” said Dr. David R. Gifford, the state health director. “All adult providers and facilities enrolled in the program will receive a sufficient quantity of vaccine so that they can start their vaccination efforts on Oct. 17.” •
