Alperts dubbed Retailer of the Year by furniture trade association

Alperts Furniture of Seekonk, MA, has been selected as National Home Furnishings Association’s (NHFA) 2005 Retailer of the Year, the highest honor for a member of the 85-year-old trade organization.

Alperts principals, Hershel Alpert and Burt Tassel, will receive the award on behalf of their company at a ceremony on April 14 during the International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, N.C.

Alpert is president and CEO, and Tassel is executive vice president and general merchandise manager of their 33-year-old company.

The award, a Baccarat crystal obelisk, will be presented by NHFA president, Jerry Baer, Baer’s Furniture, Pompano Beach, Fla.

Candidates for NHFA’s Retailer of the Year are nominated by industry colleagues and judged by an industry panel. Selection is based on three criteria: personal business achievements and company leadership; community service; and contributions to the home furnishings industry.

In the area of company leadership and achievements, the Alperts management team was recognized for the transformation of a 1970s era business into a retail model for the 21st century.

The Alperts principals are also involved in community activities, supporting organizations such as City of Hope and Habitat for Humanity. The store conducts an annual Holiday Heart Food Drive and has collected thousands of cans of food for the Community Food Bank. The store hosts local groups for activities in its Community Room, and visitors have full use of its facilities including media equipment and kitchen.

In the matter of contributions to the home furnishings industry, Alpert has been an active member of NHFA since 1980 and is currently chairman of the Retail Home Furnishings Foundation, NHFA’s research and development arm.

NHFA serves habout 2,750 ome furnishings retailers in all 50 states, Canada and abroad.
