NEWPORT – Amica Insurance, one of the state’s largest employers, today announced it has signed on as the title sponsor of Rhode Island’s only marathon, the Breakers Marathon 2007.
The Oct. 20 event will take runners along the scenic coastal and rural roads of Middletown and Newport. Prizes will include a total of $5,000 in monetary prizes for top male and female finishers in various categories, including first-place male and female Rhode Island residents, supplemented by merchandise prizes and hand-blown glass trophies from local artisans.
The Amica Insurance Breakers Marathon 2007 has a two-fold mission, the company said: to bring a world-class event back to Rhode Island and to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House in Providence.
This will be the fourth year for the race, which has continued to grow in popularity, last year drawing runners from 42 states. Amica said it chose to sponsor the marathon not only to honor its commitment to being a good corporate neighbor in its home state, but also to celebrate its own 100th anniversary.
The nation’s oldest mutual insurer of automobiles, Amica also is a national writer of homeowners, marine and personal umbrella liability insurance, plus life coverage through a subsidiary. Additional information is available at www.amica.com.
