August 24, 2010 [WARREN, RI] Anthony Gemma, candidate for the Democratic nomination for Congress from Rhode Island’s First District, today will visit the American headquarters of WaterRower, Inc. located in Warren.

“My Congressional 21st Century Jobs Plan will create 10,000 new jobs over five years by making Rhode Island the ‘wellness capital of the world,’” said Gemma. “It capitalizes on our state’s unique strengths in the areas of health care and higher education. And in WaterRower, Inc. Rhode Island has a head start in the wellness industry.”

WaterRower, Inc. was founded in Rhode Island by John Duke in 1988. His unique “WaterFlywheel” design spurred explosive corporate growth. Today WaterRower, Inc. has headquarters in Europe (London), Australia (Sydney), and, for North America, in Warren. Its legendary exercise equipment is celebrated around the world.

“Under my Congressional 21st Century Jobs Plan, scores of wellness-related businesses would be located right here in Rhode Island,” Gemma explained. “Our share of this $150 billion industry – with a growth rate projected to double that size over the next five years – will translate into 10,000 new jobs and an all-but-full recovery of our state’s economy.

“In visiting WaterRower, Inc.’s North American headquarters in Warren,” continued Gemma, “I am presenting Rhode Islanders with prima facie evidence for the practicality of my jobs plan. We can hit the ground running in January, and we’ll never look back.”
