APC to cut 700 jobs

WEST KINGSTON, R.I. — Power protection company American Power Conversion Corp. has announced plans to cut 700 jobs, or about 10 percent of its workforce.

According to a company statement, the cuts will primarily be made to manufacturing and operations personnel.

Including the 700 cuts announced today, APC said it has taken steps to reduce its overall workforce by about 15 percent from its year-end count of 7,350.

APC also said it plans to stop manufacturing in Denmark and may also stop manufacturing in the United Kingdom.

The company is set to report second quarter earnings July 26. At that time, it expects to provide further details on its plans.
