CRANSTON – The Papitto Opportunity Connection is offering high school students of color a unique initiative in which students can earn scholarship money based on ideas they have as to how to transform Rhode Island in various areas.
The organization’s Transform Rhode Island Scholarship program calls on all students in grades nine through 12 who identify as Black, Indigenous or a person of color to submit ideas on how to strengthen communities of Black, Indigenous or persons of color in the state, such as through education, job training and health care, if they were given $1 million to do so.
The Papitto Opportunity Connection said students have the chance to win $25,000, $15,000 or $10,000 and also have a seat at the table to have their ideas heard, and eventually funded. Eligible students can submit either a 1,000-word essay or a YouTube video to the organization’s website from now until Jan. 31. Winners will be notified March 15.
