‘Ask the Experts’ campaign at Kent, W&I focuses on breast cancer

WARWICK – Women & Infants Hospital and Kent Hospital, which this month are opening a joint Breast Health Center on the Warwick hospital’s campus, are also co-sponsoring an “Ask the Experts” campaign and hosting a public education forum on breast cancer awareness and prevention.
The new program complements Kent doctors’ expertise with specialists from Women & Infants in a community-hospital setting. The staff includes surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, radiologists, plastic/reconstructive surgeons, social workers, nutritionists, genetic counselors and a patient coordinator.
“The Breast Health Center prides itself on being a truly collaborative team made up of the best breast health physicians and staff from both Kent and Women & Infants hospitals,” said Dr. Candace Dyer, the center’s physician director. “The creation of this bond strongly positions our new center to deliver the highest quality and broadest range of health services possible.”
To introduce the public to the new facility, Kent is hosting a forum on Tuesday, Oct. 19, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Trowbridge Building, featuring physicians from both hospitals who will discuss the latest in breast cancer diagnostics, treatments, clinical trials and research.
In addition, throughout October, the hospitals will run an “Ask the Experts” campaign on the Web – supported by social media applications – in which consumers can ask questions directly of experts from both facilities.
The panel will include Dyer as well as Dr. Robert Legare, director of the Breast Health Center at Women & Infants, plus a fellowship-trained breast surgeon and other specialists.
Consumers can submit questions anonymously on the Kent website – www.kenthospital.org – or through the hospital’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts.
The panel members will post answers to questions on an ongoing basis as well as participate in other online events.
Women & Infants’ own website also offers has a large volume of expert information on breast and other women’s cancers, including Q&As and videos.
