Joseph R. Paolino Jr. became mayor of Providence at just 29 years old in 1984 – at that time he was the youngest mayor of a major city in the country. He went on to become director of the then-R.I Department of Economic Development under Gov. Bruce Sundlun and was eventually appointed as the United States ambassador to Malta by President Bill Clinton. Today, he is the managing partner of his four-generation family real estate and development business, Paolino Properties. / PBN PHOTO/MICHAEL SALERNO
