LOCAL PARTNER: BankNewport CEO and President Sandra Pattie, left, and Wendy Kagan, executive vice president and director of employee and community engagement, display the check representing the $100,000 donation that the bank made to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. The bank made the donation to assist the food bank with helping to alleviate hunger in Rhode Island during the COVID-19 crisis. The bank has a partnership with the food bank through grant and event sponsorship support. BankNewport also conducts community summer and holiday collections and grocery store gift card donations for the food bank. Earlier this year, before the onset of COVID-19, 35 of the bank’s employees volunteered with OceanPoint Insurance in a meal-packaging project with the United Way of Rhode Island. The group’s efforts led to the packaging of 12,000 meals for local food pantries, including FabNewport, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, East Bay Community Action Program and We Share Hope. BankNewport’s “We’re All In” volunteer program provides an avenue for outreach opportunities for bank employees, who last year performed more than 9,000 hours of community service in support of financial education and volunteer community projects.
