PROVIDENCE – Beacon Bank collected more than 7,500 pounds of nonperishable food during its summer food drive in Rhode Island, a record for the bank’s annual effort and donations that will be distributed to 14 local food pantries.
The six-week drive, held July 6 through Aug. 14, collected food at 23 Beacon Bank locations across the state in partnership with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

The donations were distributed to food pantries in the communities where they were collected, according to the bank.
The North Kingstown branch and Highland Avenue branch in East Providence collected the most food during the drive, the bank said.
Participating food pantries included Better Lives Rhode Island, Blackstone Valley Emergency Food Center, Comprehensive Community Action Program, Connecting for Children & Families, Coventry Friends of Human Services – Coventry Community Food Bank, Domestic Violence Program of Crossroads Rhode Island, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, East Bay Community Action Program, East Greenwich Interfaith Food Cupboard, Jonnycake Center for Hope, Jonnycake Center of Westerly, North Kingstown Food Pantry, St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at St. Philip Church, and Westbay Community Action Inc.
William C. Tsonos, president of Beacon Bank’s Rhode Island region, said the donations will help local food pantries support residents facing food insecurity.
The bank’s summer food drive has now exceeded its previous collection record in Rhode Island, according to Beacon Bank.
