NORTH SMITHFIELD — The Beck Cos., which manufactures custom counters, cabinets and closet-organization systems, acquired Cranston’s Great American Recreation Equipment Inc. last month, co-owner Tracey Beck told Providence Business News.
Great American Recreation manufactures pool tables, air hockey and bumper pool tables.
The Cranston company – formerly Great American Billiards – was founded in 1990 and was owned and operated by Dave Celani, who is retiring, Beck said.
“Great American has strong brand-name recognition in the industry,” said Beck. “We had similar business philosophy and both companies are family owned and operated. Dave was looking to retire and keep his brand alive. We didn’t want to see another family-owned manufacturing company fade away.”
The acquisition was strategic to Beck Cos.’ recent move into its modern new facility in North Smithfield, said Beck.
“With our state-of-the-art facility and machinery, and his industry knowledge, we all feel that we can modernize and make his products more efficient,” Beck said.
The Beck Cos. are updating Great American’s website and logo, and plan a new line of gaming tables, she said, “using material from our other divisions bringing a unique twist to the tradition tables.”
Beck Cos.’ other divisions include countertop company KB Surfaces, custom closet company Closettec and design company CAS America. Altogether the company has over 50 employees.
