PROVIDENCE – On Monday at 5 p.m. Benny’s will close two of its five remaining stores in East Greenwich and Wakefield.

The three remaining stores will be the Branch Ave. store in Providence, its Greenville store and its store in Taunton. Merchandise, excluding fixtures and Benny’s logo merchandise, will be 60 percent off.

The retailer announced in September that it expected to have closed all 31 of its stores by the end of the calendar year.

The family that owns Benny’s cited a desire to retire and pointed to the threat of online retailers such as Amazon.com Inc. as reasons why Benny’s was closing – opting to phase out of the retail business rather than pass the business down to a younger generation of the family.
