Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State rebrands, creates new logo

PROVIDENCE – Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State revealed its new look and identity Oct. 1.

Henceforth known as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island, the organization’s new logo features a bright green and black letter “B” followed by the new name of the organization, “Big Brothers Big Sisters” in black and “of Rhode Island” in green.

“The need in Rhode Island for young people to have a role model is more urgent than ever,” said Katje Afonseca, executive director of BBBSRI, in a statement. “To attract more volunteers of all generations, we needed a modernization of our brand to make an impact in the community and meet the need of the essential work of matching youth with mentors.”

Months of research and focus groups with current stakeholders – bigs and littles – as well as potential volunteers and donors proved the “brand was not effectively connecting with younger, prospective mentors or conveying the urgent mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters,” per an organization news release.

Additionally, over the next 12 months, BBBSRI will transition to a new, nationwide technology system to better participate in new training, refocus their efforts and recruit local volunteers.

The local organization is one of 270 Big Brothers Big Sisters affiliates that underwent similar rebranding. More can be learned about the process and new design online and by following #BBBS and #BIGSRI on social media.
