Blue Cross announces 2021 BlueAngel of the Year

PROVIDENCE – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island has announced its BlueAngel of the Year, a recognition presented annually to an employee who made a difference in their community.

Sarah Murray, an executive assistant at Blue Cross, was named the 2021 BlueAngel for her dedication to the BlueAngel Community Investment Program.

Murray has a long track record of volunteering at Blue Cross. She volunteered for nine separate nonprofits this year, is a member of the BlueAngel Advisory Council and is a Blue Across RI captain.

This year during the Blue Across RI event, Murray led a team of 20 volunteers who painted murals for the Raices Dual Language Academy school yard in Central Falls.

She also played a leading role in helping her colleagues raise $9,000 for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank this year.

“Sarah’s energy and creativity for community involvement are infectious,” said Carolyn Belisle, Blue Cross managing director of corporate social responsibility. “She is a passionate leader for important causes who creates excitement around engaging in volunteer work. She selflessly gives her time, energy and passion both at BCBSRI and in her community.”

During a ceremony in December, Blue Cross awarded a $500 grant to Amos House, the nonprofit of Murray’s choice, in honor of her recognition as the year’s BlueAngel.
