Boston Sports Clubs to open two R.I. centers

PROVIDENCE – Boston Sports Clubs, part of an international company that operates 161 U.S. fitness clubs and three in Switzerland, is expanding to Rhode Island, with a club slated to open in downtown Providence and another on the city’s East Side.
“We are thrilled to be able count Providence as one of our new homes and are excited about the opportunity to bring world-class fitness facilities to the residents and visitors here,” Alex Alimanestianu, CEO of Boston Sports Clubs, said in a news release. “We pride ourselves on not only delivering a superior fitness experience to our members, but on making it as convenient and as fun as possible for people to achieve their fitness goals.”
The first club, a 25,000-square-foot facility, is to open at 10 Dorrance St., targeting downtown workers looking to exercise after their work day. A second, 15,000-square-foot club will open at Riverview Place West, 131 Pitman St., within the shopping center that houses Eastside Marketplace.

Both new clubs will feature cardiovascular exercise machines with personal viewing screens and music players, as well as strength equipment and classes in kickboxing, boot camp and Pilates-based mat exercises. The East Side facility will also offer babysitting.
Memberships are being pre-sold at 155 Westminster St. in Providence.

The company did not say when the two clubs will open locally. The addition of these two locations will give the company 26 Boston Sports Clubs altogether.•
