
PROVIDENCE – Total compensation for private-industry workers, including wages, salaries and employer costs for employee benefits, increased 2.7% year over year in September in the Boston-Worcester-Providence, Mass.-R.I.-N.H.-Conn. consolidated statistical area, not seasonally adjusted, according to a report released Thursday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The growth in the region was in line with a 2.7% national growth.

The figures come from the BLS’ Employment Cost Index, measuring the cost of labor in the United States, free from the influence of employment shifts among occupations and industries.
The 2.7% yearly growth rate in compensation in the Boston-Worcester-Providence CSA in September was 0.3 percentage points higher than it was one year prior but was level with its last measurement in June 2019.
Wages and salaries in the Boston-Worcester-Providence area increased 2.9% year over year, lower than the 3% increase nationally.
