TAUNTON – Bristol County Savings Bank announced Monday that its charitable foundation awarded a record of more than $1.9 million in fiscal year 2018 to 184 nonprofit organizations in the communities it serves.
The organizations receiving grants are primarily located in Taunton, Attleboro, Raynham, Rehoboth, New Bedford, Dartmouth and Fall River, as well as in Pawtucket. Fiscal 2018 marked the ninth consecutive year the bank has awarded grants totaling more than $1 million, the Taunton-based bank said.
“As a community bank, we feel it’s vitally important to support local organizations that are doing all they can to make a positive impact in the community,” said Patrick J. Murray Jr., president and CEO of Bristol County Savings Bank and president of the Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation.
The foundation was established in 1996 as part of the bank’s 150th anniversary celebration. Since the foundation’s inception, nearly $20 million in grants have been committed to hundreds of different nonprofit organizations. Its purpose is to fund needs that contribute to the economic and social well-being of the people and institutions located in the greater Taunton/Attleboro region, the Southcoast Region, and in Rhode Island, with particular emphasis in the areas of education and literacy, economic development and housing for low- to moderate-income people.
“The not-for-profit organizations we assisted last year are all building a stronger community in different ways and, in so doing, continually inspire us to keep doing our part,” Murray said.
