Bronson named new dean of RWU School of Justice Studies

BRISTOL – Eric F. Bronson will begin his tenure as dean of the Roger Williams University School of Justice Studies in July, the school announced in late March.

Bronson, who said he is looking forward to working with the RWU team, outlined his goals as: “to grow the program, to increase the quality of the education provided, to provide students with opportunities to work in the field and to expose students to facets of the criminal justice program they might not have anticipated.”

RWU Provost Andrew A. Workman is “extremely pleased” by the new hire. He said of Bronson: “His experience, scholarly work and energy will serve to maintain the school’s high reputation in undergraduate and graduate education and to build on our strong partnerships with regional and national law enforcement organizations.”

Since 2009, as the former director of criminal justice and associate professor at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, Bronson grew the program from 166 total students to 437 undergraduates and 127 graduate students by fall 2016. In addition, during his time at Lamar, Bronson served as vice chairman of the university’s Institutional Review Board and co-director of its Center for Death Penalty Studies.

A graduate of Bowling Green State University and Western Kentucky University, Bronson previously held positions at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn., and at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas.
