PROVIDENCE – Brown University has awarded $474,000 in grants from its Fund for the Education of the Children of Providence to the Providence Public School District to assist with the district’s programming that is aimed at strengthening teaching and learning in the district’s classrooms.

The funding, Brown said, will support multiple initiatives. Among them are the development of an educational framework aimed at advancing equity and justice in PPSD, establishing an international baccalaureate program at Hope High School, developing data and analytic systems in schools, and an initiative focused on employee education.

“Every student in Providence deserves access to a quality education that provides a foundation for lifetime success, no matter what path they might choose,” Brown President Christina H. Paxson said in a statement. “The disbursements from the fund this year – as well as sustained disbursements in future years – will support this goal.”

Providence School Superintendent Harrison Peters said in a statement that these projects will accelerate the district’s ongoing work in focusing on these initiatives and he looks forward to future engagement to help turn the district around.
