PROVIDENCE – Brown University has appointed Daniel Behr as executive director of corporate relations. Behr will begin his position July 1.

The position, which had not previously existed, was created after Brown reviewed its corporate relationship landscape, including through a survey of faculty interest in strengthening corporate outreach and coordination.

The position entails creating a plan to identify, cultivate, coordinate and steward corporate partnerships. Behr will be tasked with creating the infrastructure of a new Office of Corporate Relation, as well as convene and staff an advisory board to inform Brown’s commercial engagement sector.

Behr will serve as a member of Brown President Christina H. Paxon’s executive committee and will oversee the Technology Ventures Office.

“Daniel Behr is supremely qualified to join Brown at this juncture to launch a robust program of corporate relations,” said Brown Provost Richard Locke. “He brings 30 years of experience in technology commercialization, moving science-based innovations from lab to market, primarily through the numerous startups in which he has been involved as entrepreneur, venture investor and technology transfer professional.”

Behr most recently worked as the CEO of SLIPS Technologies Inc., an advanced materials and coatings company venture-funded by Harvard University.

“I am excited to take on this new role at Brown University and to help unleash the societal and commercial impact of the University’s research and innovations,” Behr said. “I see great opportunity to build more bridges and facilitate more interactions between Brown and the commercial ecosystem.”
