Brown ranks No. 11 on WSJ U.S. college rankings

PROVIDENCE – Brown University ranked No. 11, tied with the University of Chicago, in the 2018 Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education rankings of United States colleges released on Wednesday.

Brown was recognized as a No. 10 ranked school for research, tied with Cornell and Yale. It ranked No. 6 in the nation for engagement, tied with Baylor University, and ranked No. 5 for students’ top school for inspiration.

Harvard University ranked No. 1 overall for 2018, followed by Columbia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University and Duke University.

The ranking included 500 schools and was based on 15 factors in four categories: student outcomes, a school’s academic resources, how well a school engages with students and the diversity of its students and staff.

  • The Rhode Island School of Design was the next-highest ranked college in Rhode Island at No. 102, tied with Connecticut College.
  • Bryant University also made the list at No. 184, tied with Drake University, Loyola University Maryland and Missouri University of Science and Technology.
  • Providence College ranked No. 239 on the list, tied with Clark University.
  • Salve Regina University was the last Rhode Island school to make the list at No. 424, tied with State University of New York at New Paltz, Seattle Pacific University, Wagner College and Wilkes University.

The University of California, Los Angeles was the top-ranked public school in the country, according to the list.
