Brown, R.I. universities make Forbes’ top colleges list

NEW YORK – Brown University ranked No. 21 out of the 650 undergraduate institutions on the Forbes “America’s Top Colleges” list.

“The best years of life are also among the most expensive. Choose with care,” said Forbes which based its list on five categories: student satisfaction, 27.5 percent; post-graduate success, 30 percent; student debt, 17.5 percent; four-year graduation rate, 17.5 percent; and competitive awards, 7.5 percent.

The “top college” in the United States, according to Forbes, is a small, western Massachusetts liberal arts school, Williams College, for the second year in a row.

In second place was Princeton University in New Jersey, followed by the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in New York, Amherst College in Massachusetts, and Stanford University in California. Harvard University came in at No. 6.

Other Rhode Island institutions that made the list were: Providence College, No. 156, the University of Rhode Island at No. 375, Roger Williams University at No. 477, Johnson & Wales at No. 542, and Rhode Island College at No. 571.
