Brown, UMass Dartmouth, local colleges among U.S. News’ 2023 best graduate schools

PROVIDENCE – Brown University, the University of Rhode Island and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth are among multiple local colleges that were ranked among the top graduate schools in the country according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2023 rankings released Tuesday.

The publication said the rankings were designed for prospective students looking to further their education in various disciplines after college. Such programs that were highlighted were in business, education, engineering, law, medicine, nursing and science.

U.S. News surveyed more than 2,100 programs and more than 23,000 academic professionals to compile the 2023 rankings.

Brown appeared in 24 different rankings within U.S. News’ report, the most of all local higher education institutions. The Ivy League university’s highest ranking came in developmental economics, where it ranked No. 9. Brown was also ranked either at or tied at No. 14 in the medical school-primary care, geochemistry and geophysics categories.

The majority of UMass Dartmouth’s and Roger Williams University’s rankings within U.S. News’ report come in the law category. URI’s highest ranking came in the nursing category, being tied for No. 80.
