PROVIDENCE – One of the most visited buildings on the Brown University campus will be renamed Page-Robinson Hall, to recognize Inman Edward Page and Ethel Tremaine Robinson, who were the school’s first male and female black graduates.
The six-story building houses a variety of student-centered offices and services, including classrooms. It is now known as the J. Walter Wilson building, recognizing the 40-year service of a former professor of biology. The building opened in 1962.

Page, born into slavery, sought freedom and opportunity at Brown, according to the president. He graduated in 1877.
Robinson, who graduated in 1905, broke both a color and a gender barrier, said Paxson.
